Documentary “Cold Refuge” Showcases Swimming in the Bay

As the popularity of open water swimming grows, so does coverage of the sport. Cold Refuge offers a fun and local look at open water swimming in the San Francisco Bay. The movie is coming to San Francisco and will be shown at Fort Mason Center’s Cowell Theater on Sunday, April 16th at 10 AM.

The 2022 feature-length documentary is 79 minutes long and directed and produced by Emmy award-winning Judy Irving. Cold Refuge is an official entry in the International Ocean Film Festival, which will take place April 13 –16. A total of 33 films from 11 countries will be featured. Nineteen of those films, which range from 3—98 minutes, are from the US.

“Cold Refuge is about the physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of full immersion in the natural world: how, though it may seem counter-intuitive, swimming in cold water helps mitigate some of life's most serious challenges.”
