The Odyssey team was more than excited when we learned that Diablo Magazine was writing a guide on swimming in the East Bay. Not only were we excited about being mentioned in the article, but the piece is a great guide to help newcomers and veterans of open water swimming get in the water more often. After all, we want to grow open water swimming and help as many people as possible experience and enjoy swimming in the open.

.The piece begins by explaining the increase in interest in the activity.

Increased fitness, unbeatable views, and an instant mood boost: the benefits of open-water swimming are drawing growing numbers of swimmers to the East Bay’s coastal waters. Whether it’s Alameda’s 2.5-mile sandy shoreline, the Berkeley Marina’s more challenging chop, or the relatively calm cove at Richmond’s Keller Beach, saltwater swimming is making a splash.

Diablo Magazine’s article also features several swimmers who share their thoughts and stories, from swimming with seals to the benefits of starting your day with a swim.

The guide then breaks down different locations, including Berkeley and Richmond waterfronts, Alameda beaches, and more.

The guide includes pictures of Odyssey Berkeley swimmers and coach Conny, who was completing the first Alcatraz crossing of the year in the photo (also shown above).
