Odyssey Swimmers Complete First Alcatraz Crossing of 2021!
We all bring in the new year a little bit differently. Here at Odyssey Open Water Swimming, we made the first Alcatraz crossing of 2021 in the East Bay. On the cold morning of January 1st, Coach Conny and Alison, accompanied by Bob Day who took some amazing pictures and kayaker/support staff/captain Taylor Hurt, jumped in at around 7:10 AM.
The two both successfully finished the crossing around 45 minutes later from just outside of Alcatraz Island to Aquatic Park. The full photo album of the swim can be found here on the Odyssey Open Water Swimming Facebook page.
During the morning, there were radio calls of other swims, but the team believes that Conny and Alison were the first two swimmers to make the crossing in 2021. It’s a great start to the year!
The Odyssey team would like to thank Bob Day for helping us take pictures of the event with Taylor, and congratulate Conny and Alison on their first Alcatraz crossing of the year. Odyssey will host Alcatraz swims during the year with limited availability to help keep swimmers and the community safe. Swimmers are required to wear masks when outside of the water.
