Jenny Swimming Blog Details Odyssey Alcatraz Adventure

On September 17, roughly 99 swimmers joined the Odyssey Open Water Swimming crew for an exciting Odyssey Alcatraz swim. One of those 99 swimmers was Jenny, who dedicated herself to the activity she so dearly loves, and now writes beautifully about on her blog Jenny Swimming.

I want to celebrate the milestone of turning fifty by committing myself to something big (for me) that doesn’t live within the confines of achievement as we usually think about it. I don’t strive to be the fastest or to accomplish an especially long swim (or any particular swim at all). I just want to show up everyday to do this thing that I love.

Before we could even post the photo album of the swim online, Jenny had written a full entry about her experience on her blog. Here’s an excerpt:

But at some point, I realized it wasn’t a particularly difficult swim. I could lift my head and look around, soaking in the sweeping views of the bridges, the San Francisco skyline, the fogged-in East Bay, Alcatraz behind us, without losing much ground.
