Understanding Alcatraz Currents for Open Water Swimming (Alcatraz to Aquatic Park)
“One of the keys to a successful Alcatraz swim involves understanding the currents and planning your course out accordingly,” says Warren Wallace, Founder and CEO of Odyssey Open Water Swimming. Odyssey hosts nearly 100 swims each year, including public and private Alcatraz swims, which can be extremely challenging. Because of currents, the 2+ mile swim can turn into a much longer, more dangerous crossing.
